Angry Birds Rio , the third main installment of the acclaimed Angry Birds series, was developed by Rovio Entertainment and published in March 2011. The game was released in collaboration with Fox Digital Entertainment and 20th Century Fox to promote the animated film "Rio." With its addictive gameplay and charming characters, Angry Birds Rio quickly gained popularity among mobile gamers. However, in 2019, the game, along with several other early Angry Birds titles, was removed from app stores, and in 2020, its servers were officially discontinued. Despite these changes, players can still enjoy the game without microtransactions and advertisements.

Gameplay Mechanics:

Angry Birds Rio features classic puzzle gameplay, similar to the original Angry Birds game. Players control a group of birds that can be launched from a slingshot to defeat enemies and complete levels. The enemies can be either caged birds or Marmosets, and they are often hidden within structures made of wood, glass, and stone, along with other objects like chains and TNT. While "Rio" episodes retained the classic Angry Birds sprites and gameplay, "Rio 2" episodes introduced new sprites and additional mechanics, such as rockets and water elements. These episodes also offered optional hints to help players who faced challenging levels.

Each episode consists of several levels, with "Rio" episodes typically having thirty levels and "Rio 2" episodes featuring twenty levels, except for special episodes like Hidden Harbor (fifteen levels) and Treasure Hunt (forty levels). Additionally, each episode includes six optional bonus levels that can be unlocked by completing specific tasks or using in-game currency called Coins.

In-Game Currency and Power-ups:

To enhance gameplay, Angry Birds Rio introduces power-ups, optional booster items that players can utilize for temporary advantages to overcome difficult levels. However, these power-ups are limited and can't be used once depleted. To obtain more power-ups and unlock bonus levels, players can use Coins, the game's virtual currency. Coins can be earned by collecting stars or watching ads within the game. Alternatively, players have the option to use real money to purchase additional Coins. However, since the game's servers were discontinued in 2020, the ability to watch ads or make real-money purchases is no longer available.

Future Prospects:

Although Angry Birds Rio was discontinued and its servers were closed down, some fans hold out hope that the game might return in the future, along with other classic Angry Birds titles like Angry Birds Seasons. However, Rovio Entertainment stated that the likelihood of such a comeback is uncertain due to licensing issues.
